Play Bingo while Job Hunting
It's common knowledge that bingo is played for different purposes. First and foremost, it is a means by which people can win lots of money in a short span of time, that is, if they are lucky.
Bingo is also a popular pasttime for people looking for alternative means to have fun. Senior citizens do not need to be stuck to the television screen all day long, thanks to bingo. They can now go out and spend some time at the nearest bingo hall, where other retirees hang out. So it also serves as a catalyst for social interaction.
As we all know, bingo has also been famous for fund-raising. It is one of the usual means by which charitable institutions, even churches, generate funds for their projects. Therefore, playing bingo is not always a selfish act. It has also become a way to help people in need.
All these purposes of bingo are very familiar to us by now, but what's not familiar is when bingo is used in career orientations.
Don't be surprised. It is true that bingo is now being used by several student bodies and organizations as a way to lighten up the mood in career talks. Such has happened before in Bentley, where the organizers decided to place bingo in the line-up of activities.
In the said event, students and employers were first given half an hour to talk to each other. After that, the bingo games began. The organizers made sure that each table has a mix of students and employers. The reason behind this is that they want the participants to bond as the games progress.
There were bingo games in which only the employers are allowed to play, and there were also bingo games for students. This was aimed to distinguish the students from the employers, so all the participants can remember each others' names better.
Aside from the segregation of games, another unique feature of this bingo event was the distribution of prizes. When one person from your table wins, every one at that table gets something. Naturally, you would cheer for your "teammates". To be able to cheer them on, you would have no choice but to know their name. This, of course, led not only to better name recall, but also to camaraderie.
Therefore, career talks should not always be boring. Organizers can always use bingo to spice things up.
